Big Mac To Go

I finally caught one of these beasts (so to speak). This McLaren F1 was part of a “100 Years of Automobiles” type of display. This may have even been the original F1 that was shown in the Frankfurt autoshow in 1993, but it was written all in German so I guess we’ll never know.

In case you were wondering, the car to the right is a pre-Ferdinand Piëch Bugatti.

And what was next to the McLaren? A Bugatti, of course. This Bugatti has four turbo-chargers, and four-wheel drive. At least the Bugatti was made available in the United States, so people like Bill Gates can buy one. In each color they come in.

Separated At Birth?

I thought this was interesting. This 6-cylinder 1979 BMW M1 was parked next to the 6-cylinder 1980 Delorean DMC-12. While the BMW 3.5 liter’s 277 hp was considerably higher than the Delorean’s 132 hp 2.8 liter V6, the physical similarities between the two cars was significant. Obviously, BMW must have seen Delorean’s plan and copied it before John Delorean could get his car out.

(And if you’re as sharp-eyed as Cargirl, you will notice the European-style go-kart track behind the cars.)

The Mother Of All 944s

To the untrained eye, this may look just like a 924 with fender bulges, a turbo hood-scoop and racing headlights, but according to the placard, this was the MY1982 944 show car introduced here at Frankfurt in 1981. To me, it’s Guards Red and Beautiful.
