Porsche In Heat...

This is what happens after driving at high speeds for long periods of time in the desert. The driver accidently drives into a national park with 25 mph speed limits (uphill, with no wind), watches the temperature gauge climb, freaks out, parks the car and takes a picture.

As a point of reference, the blinking lights (lights) indicate the newest changes.

Me And My Porsche

What do I think about this Porsche? I think it’s great. I’ve owned it since 1994 when I bought it with 25,000 miles, and haven’t regretted a moment of ownership. (That means that I averaged about 17,000 miles on it as a “weekend car.” Well, some of those weekends were longer than others.)

There’s just something about this car when you get behind the wheel and drive it. While it’s true that I haven’t driven every “cool” car in the world, there are very few cars that would tempt me to get rid of this one, and those cars cost much more (a McLaren F1 comes to mind). And to be honest, my favorite (real production) Porsche is the 928 (but don’t tell my 944). Just call me a water-cooled kinda guy.

So take a few minutes and read a few of my adventures in So There I Was..., or just browse through the technical junk.

Related Information

If you’re trying to find out about a Porsche factory tour, or information on the Porsche Museum, check out my Travel pages. There’s also information on the BMW Museum, Ruf, and some European cities there.

If you want to know about driving on the Nürburgring or the Pony Express races, or just see pictures of other European cars, then check out my Cars pages.

For the true 944 buffs out there, check out my picture of the original 944 that made its debut at the 1981 Frankfurt auto show. At least, that’s what I think the placard said. It was in German, so I was guessing a lot.

And if the mood hits you, send me an I get bored easily.

Videos

On my Nürburgring tribute pages, I have some in-car videos of the 944 going around the old North Loop track. I would recommend Quicktime and a fast connection, like cable modem, for best results. Your mileage may vary.

Bibliography

I used the following books for most of the information here. The rest I made up.

I think “Original Porsche” by Peter Morgan is the best of the bunch.

(Don’t Americans write about 944s at all?)
