About The School

The International BMW Nürburgring Driving School is held every June by the BMW Club Europa eV. For some unexplainable reason, they let us Americans on in their fun.

The school is two and a half days long on the old Nordschleife (“north loop”) of this famous track. The track is broken up into 11 sections, and groups of 10-15 cars play follow the leader to try and learn this track. About 200+ cars and motorcycles participate in this school. Then there are the Ecomobiles. You’ll have to look at the pictures to figure out what these mutants of the mobile world are.

At the end of the school, when you’ve memorized the entire 14 mile track (right!), there’s a graded lap to see how well you follow the “perfect” line. Does it get any better than this (with or without clothes on)?

The only problem with this school is they won’t let me run my 944! But you know, considering my driving skill, that’s A Good Thing™.

As this is a BMW driving school, only BMWs, or anything remotely related to BMWs, are allowed. This is why Rovers were in the mix my first year at the school.

Pine Eifel Mountains at Bergwerk

This is the proper line out of Bergwerk. Around us are the Eifel Mountains to lend beautiful scenery to the picture.

And no, we’re not that good. This is a static picture. We were all out of our cars, which are parked.

School Information

You can get sign-up information about the school from BMW CCA at the specified time and date to register. Their main number is 617/492-2500. In 1998, the person to contact was Wynne Smith. I don’t know if that’s changed.

The cost for the school is about $800-900, depending on the exchange rate. You still have to pay for your flight, hotel, rental car, etc. As a way of comparison, similar Nürburgring “Perfection Training” schools run DM2400 (~$1300)

Also, was the North American coordinator for 1997. You may want to e-mail him for more information.

Also, you can check out this website for the proper “line” around the ’Ring.
