This is the 1997 version of the car for the Pony Express. I had the pretty wheels on this time because I didn’t want to drive cross-country with R-compound (“sticky”) tires. I mount my street tires on the Antera wheels.
A friend did suggest shipping my BFG Comp T/A R1s to the hotel for the race. (I couldn’t fit them in the car with the rest of my stuff.) While this was a good idea, I decided to just stick with street tires.

This is owned by the same person who drove an Acura Legend the year before. This time her license plate reads: GOT MATH, and the number on her car was modified to 1.86 x 10^5. (That would be the speed of light in miles/second).

This is the same 928 that I took a picture of in 1996. I can’t remember, but I think they bumped up to the Unlimited Class for this race. And if you were the rather large mammal of a chaperoning the girl in the picture around, I swear I wasn’t stalking her.

So have you figured out that I like 928s yet? This is actually a very dark picture that I tried to lighten up. It had been sunny the entire Saturday before the race at this point. Suddenly, the sky grew dark and threatening. It poured hard for a while, and we even had a bit of hail. Car owners were desperately covering their cars from the heavenly pellets. There were a lot of anxious owners that afternoon.

All right. Here’s a non-928 picture, although it’s almost as big and ponderous. This semi was one of several that competed in the Touring Class. Fortunately, they didn’t have to tow their trailers in the race.
Some racing semis also showed up (lowered, souped and numbered), but something must have been wrong with them because I didn’t see any of them in the race.
