Paris - Eiffel Tower

5.5/8.0 I think it’s great that such a large, useless structure could be built in such a big city. (The half-scale replica that’s being built in Las Vegas doesn’t count, since Las Vegas is not a real city.) I’m guessing that attitude is similar to the attitude in Paris when this 934-foot structure was built by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Paris World’s Fair.

I didn’t go up the tower, but that’s obviously possible (you can also go on the roof of the Arc de Triomphe -- use the Metro station to go there instead of trying to cross the traffic circle).

Right now, they are displaying the days left until the year 2000 as a large, lighted sign on one side of the tower.

It’s not a very good picture, but my car is in it, so I have to like it.

And here’s my tourist-y picture taken at night. I have to say I was moderately inspired that night. And in case you’re wondering, I just have a point-and-shoot Olympus camera (Stylus Zoom 70).
